The first deliveries made from the new location in Magdeburg (Sachsen Anhalt) were already made at the beginning of August. With the ceremonial opening at the beginning of September, the Gunz logistic center received a dignified inauguration as the start into a successful future at the new location in Germany.
In a cheerful atmosphere with the best entertainment of the music band “Die Lauser” from Styria and the finest gastronomic specialities from Austria the opening went on till the lately hours in the evening.
Besides numerous clients, suppliers, partners and employees, the State Secretary Michael Richter as well as the Lord Mayor Dr. Lutz Trümper joined the opening party with nearly 800 guests from 25 countries. With kind words of greeting and expressions of gratitude the opening ceremony found its ceremonious impetus.
Also in 2012 Gunz is continuing its road to success. After the first half year the sales are grown again two-placed. The progression adds up to 14.7 % comparing the last year.
The highest rates of growth are registered in Germany as well as in France, Libya, Finland and Sweden.
From this time on company Gunz is beside the impressive Piacelli-Truck as well in a “stone age look” on the roads. The new Flintstones-Truck was presented and is now as a real eye-catcher found on the European roads.
With the first goods, that have been stored in our new logistic center in Magdeburg (Sachsen-Anhalt, Germany) on the 16th of July, our logistic center is prepared for its start of work.
The first deliveries from the warehouse Magdeburg to our clients are planned for the 30th of July. Everything goes according to schedule.
The biggest annual sport event, the Tour de France, has started. Also presented is Gunz as a partner of the Swiss BMC Racing Team. Last year the Australian Cadel Evans of the BMC Racing Team won the Tour and as well this year the odds are at the best. A strong team, an ambitious titleholder and with Gunz a strong partner in the background.
In the “kitchen camper” the BMC Racing Team chef Peter Cambré is always available for his BMC Racing Team. Best sport-culinary is offered to the cycling team around Cadel Evans. Specialities from Piacelli, Don Fernando and Ivanka from the house of Gunz are on the daily menu of the cycling team.
The BMC professional cycling team – with whom Gunz has entered a new partnership this year - achieved first place during the first three stages of the legendary Giro d'Italia.
The American Taylor Phinney led at the interim scoring, from the kick off in Denmark up until reaching Italian soil in Verona. Phinney had to pass the pink jersey to Lithuanian Navardauskas after an unfortunate fall in the 3rd stage.
Gunz has offered the Flintstones strong impulse buys for the past two years. Now the successful cooperation between Gunz and Warner Bros. has been extended for a further three years.
Gunz customers can enjoy and benefit from this extension. The Flintstones line is found in a variety of products within a wide range of own label assortment from 22 Gunz brands. The trendy stone-age Family Flinstone figures decorate different varieties of croissants, marshmallows, kids champagne, popcorn, chews, candy floss, chocolate bars, pralines or cereal.
An impressive, selected range of products which set new standards. An attractive range of impulse buys can be selected from the different product groups. In order to support strong second line sales Gunz also offers various displays for the individual product groups.
DLG experts tested more than 27,000 foodstuffs - award-winning products impress with their quality
Gunz Warenhandels GmbH, Maeder was honoured by the DLG (German Agricultural Society) food testing centre with two gold, four silver and one bronze medal(s) for the outstanding quality of their products.
The focus of the tests is the sensory evaluation of products according to defined criteria such as appearance, smell, taste and overall impression. The "DLG Prize" gold, silver or bronze is awarded to tested products that meet the DLG quality criteria.
Due to technical and methodological skills, the annual quality tests organised by the DLG are leaders in Europe and are accredited according to international standards. Current and scientifically validated test methods and product-specific quality standards guarantee highly reliable results. "DLG-winning products represent top quality products in their respective segments", said Dr. Thomas Schmidt, project manager at the DLG food testing centre.

The DLG food testing centre promotes product quality on the basis of neutral, binding quality standards. The proof of competence through accreditation guarantees the DLG-test systems neutral and independent quality assessment. Only products that meet the DLG quality criteria receive the award "DLG Prize" in gold, silver or bronze.

At the topping-out ceremony of the new logistic center Magdeburg on Thursday, 22nd March 2012 the Gunz-management was thanking the present architects, the construction management and all the craftsmen for their sterling work during construction.
The work is on schedule. In the summer of 2012, will begin shipping the first pallets.
The Gunz workforce celebrated the successful year of 2011 with an eventful Christmas Party on 10th December 2011. Many people from home and abroad found themselves in the atmospheric setting of J.J. Endersaals in Mäder.
Among the guests there were 5 employees celebrating their 10-year anniversaries with the company. Congratulations were given to those who had devoted 10 years service Peter Kroll (Sales Representative, Germany), Dietmar Fend (Deputy Stores Manager, Mäder), Elmar Ender (Stores Manager, Mäder), Stefan Gunz (Operations Manager, Mäder) and Eres Anto (Stores, Mäder).
The evening was drawn to a close with the rocky dance rhythms from the Vorarlberger band "Moose Crossing".
Fiscal year 2011 ended again with a record turnover for Gunz Warenhandels GmbH from Mäder (AT).
The Vorarlberg food distributors increased the annual turnover to € 75.1 million, this means an increase of 11.3% over the previous year. Thus the family business grew again by double digits, this has been the case 13 times over in the last 16 years. The export rate is constant at 94 %.
The largest growth rates were achieved in Germany, this is Gunz most important export country. After Germany came Switzerland, the Netherlands, Belgium, Czech Republic and Romania amongst the most important export countries. The highest growth rates were achieved in addition to Germany in Belgium, the Czech Republic and Slovakia. The number of the export countries was also greatly increased, in 2011 a further 15 states were added. In total Gunz exports to 65 countries on all continents. The most successful new states in terms of sales were Finland, Kosovo, Australia and Japan.
The Gunz range includes almost 1500 items with own brand business becoming more and more important. About two-thirds of sales are achieved in the meantime with own brands, which are produced by 150 manufacturers throughout Europe.
The number of employees was strengthened in 2011, recently increasing by 40 to the current 170. At headquarters in Mäder, administration has been extended, in Magdeburg, Germany the construction of the new Logistics Centre (worth €15 million) has already advanced. Completion is scheduled for mid 2012.
